Garry Trudeau uses misdirection to remind us that we are all worried about the same thing.

I love this!

There is no doubt that both Trump supporters and detractors leaped to the same conclusion while reading this, because we are ALL experiencing this lunacy at the same time.

The comic subtly takes you down a road that we are all traveling on a daily basis, and then abruptly changes direction, reminding us that we are all very narrowly focused on what is happening with the presidency right now.

It also demonstrates that despite our partisan differences we are ALL spending an inordinate amount of time worrying about what happens next.

And that is simply not good for the country.

    Slate:

    It’s Bad
The first month of the Trump presidency has been more cruel and destructive than the majority of Americans feared. The worst is yet to come.

....Trump lies so much it’s as if he’s intentionally mocking the impotence of truth. He shamelessly profits off his office, reveling in our powerlessness to stop him. His closest aide is an unkempt racist who has described Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl as a role model. A senior adviser uses her administration perch to hawk the president’s daughter’s line of polyester-blend workwear in a blatant violation of ethics rules. Trump himself is either enmeshed in a subversive relationship with Vladimir Putin, or he’s willing to appear to be....

Republicans in Congress have watched silently as Trump has shredded American credibility in the world, terrorized immigrants, and flirted with treason. We can now see that there is nothing—not sexual lasciviousness, not corruption, not meddling by foreign adversaries—that Republicans abhor more than they abhor Democrats, nor anything they value above power....

Canada has reported over 200% increase since Nov 9th of immigrants crossing the border asking for asylum.

Good things Justin doesn't want to build a wall.

Putting the shoe on the other foot and exposing the double standard of the party of hypocrites.

Swedes on Twitter have some fun at Trump's expense:

"Pray for Sweden. They will wake up with universal healthcare. Paid parental leave. Green energy. Free daycare. Sane leaders. #swedenincident"

I think I liked the photo of all of the tiny persons of snow the best. But then, I love tiny persons of snow.

    "Chelsea Clinton ✔@ChelseaClinton
What happened in Sweden Friday night? Did they catch the Bowling Green Massacre perpetrators?"

I also enjoyed the visual directions for building an Ikea border wall.

Sweden has very high taxes, but at least they get something for their money. Healthcare, daycare, paid maternity/paternity leave ...

Not secret service detail for business trips and “mental health” vacations.

I overheard a man loudly telling someone on the phone "I heard that Trump has a lot of jobs and he is giving them to people!"
For the level of the man's cognitive abilities, developmental disorders, maybe Trump can have people believe that suddenly there are more jobs and they will get one without that having happened yet. I can grasp that for people who are unwilling to or incapable of gaining more education or skills that Trump declared wht they wanted to hear. Democrats proposed and emphasized higher education and making education more affordable including job training.

It is disturbing to me how Trump identifies all Mexicans and Muslims solely guilty of gangs, illegal drugs, crime and terrorism along with robbing whites of jobs.

I also wake up wondering what OMG thing Trump will say and do today. I hope Sweden and other countries take him to task for lying about them so he can con people to not believe anyone but him because he is the only truthful person.

My ex behaved like Trump on steroids. The more he lied he escalated declaring everyone was a liar and even "depraved" out to lie and he a saintly victim. President Trump can reactivate personal reigns of terror memories. Manipulating fear of others defining them as dangerous with malicious intent can fool most people.

I am terribly depressed over Trump and feel like staying in bed and doing nothing. I write notes to representatives and things like that, but with the damned Republicans in control, it feels useless. Trump is an ever present danger to the world. How can we get rid of this insanity? This is tough for Americans, hell for immigrants and makes the whole world worry. If our Democratic leaders don't fight this disease tooth and nail, we have to hold them all to account. The life of the planet and all the living creatures within it are in danger because of a raving lunatic.

  7. The last two sentences of this post conclude that we're all spending too much time worrying about what's going to happen next, which isn't good for the country.

In a prior post, Gryphen said words to the effect that he considered this the lowest point of the US in his lifetime. He wrote that this wasn't hyperbole, but fact. He said we must buckle down, take to the streets, and fight for our freedoms so we can once again "brag" about how great our country is.

(Actually he was hyperbolic. I think of the Kennedy, King, and Malcolm X assassinations; segregation; the Vietnam war; Nixon; the Iran hostages; 9/11; the invasion of Iraq, etc. Most of these tragic crises have occurred during Gryphen's lifetime. Trump hasn't killed anyone that we know of, and he's being held in check by cooler heads. But I'm digressing.)

The odd thing is that these two posts are contradictory. Gryphen thinks we shouldn't worry so much about what's going to happen next, although the nation is at the lowest point of his life, and we should take to the streets. Usually he makes sense, but I can't reconcile the points he's trying to make in these two posts.
